Each year the Medical Society presents the Excellence in Health Care Award to one deserving member. A plaque reflecting the recipient's accomplishments is presented during the Winter Membership Dinner in January. In the SCCMS offices is a large trophy honoring successive recipients with a small name and date plaque.
Nominations are accepted by the Board of Governors (BOG) from August-October. Any active member may submit a nomination, in writing, stating the reasons for their nomination. The winner is decided by the BOG, acting as a committee of the whole, at their November meeting.
Qualities that exemplify the highest standards of the medical profession will be used to judge the possible recipients. Key factors in choosing the award recipient are:
- excellence of clinical knowledge
- compassion in rendering care
- commitment to community service
- continuous leadership achievements in the improvement of the health care delivery system.
If, in the judgment of the BOG, no nominees meet the selection criteria there will be no award given that year.
