Physician Workforce 2030

An estimated 40% of those physicians currently practicing in Santa Cruz County will be retiring in the next 10-15 years. There is already a physician shortage in our region particularly in primary care, OBGYN's and several other specialties.

Physician Workforce 2030 is comprised of physician leaders and other health care and community leaders and is focused on strategies to address the growing physician shortages in our communities. An initial report is targeted for publication in 2020.

If you would like to be involved in the physician workforce council, please contact Emilia Cline Arellano or Donna Odryna at 831-479-7226.

Each year, physician members of the Santa Cruz County Medical Society mentor and encourage students as they explore interest in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. Interests that foster careers in medicine and lead to young doctors to come back to our communities and fill the growing need for more physicians in our region. We partner with schools and programs such as the UCSC Health Sciences department and MESA Schools.

Are you interested in pursuing a career in medicine? Are you already attending college or university with an eye on medical school?
