PPE for Healthcare Professionals and Organizations

With COVID-19 focus shifted to ongoing vaccination efforts, the CMA online PPE Portal is now closed. However, locally we can still assist physicians, their practices and organizations when the need for PPE is present. Please contact us at (831) 479-7226 and ask for Donna Odryna to schedule an appointment to receive a free supply of PPE. We have the following PPE supplies still available: Medical grade masks, gowns, and face shields.

THE STORY

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) compounded the hardships for medical practices and hindered their ability to provide care for patients. In response, the California Medical Association (CMA) developed an entirely new statewide distribution system for essential medical equipment, which included PPE donations from the Office of Emergency Services (OES). Then together with the County Medical Society, more than 120 million pieces of PPE—including medical-grade masks, gloves and gowns—were distributed to healthcare organizations free of charge, so that they could safely provide care to patients.

Since August 1, 2020, we worked together to distribute over 100 million pieces of PPE to physicians and medical groups. Several hundred physicians and healthcare professionals in Santa Cruz County and Monterey County received free PPE to help alleviate the strain on practices and improve patient access to care. Total value of the PPE distributed has exceeded one million dollars. Statewide, the donations supported approximately 100,000 California physicians and their staff, which represented a total value of more than $200 million.
